Paul Scholes has argued that Alexander Isak deserves to play for “bigger and better” clubs than Arsenal, amid continued speculation about the Newcastle striker’s future. Isak has long been linked with a move to the Gunners, with some even suggesting that he could be Mikel Arteta’s ‘dream’ signing. However, Scholes believes the Swedish forward is destined for greater things and sees a move to Arsenal as a step backward for the 24-year-old.
Scholes, speaking on *The Overlap*, stated: “Everyone loves him, but I don’t see a possibility of him going to Arsenal. He needs to go bigger and better.” Scholes went on to explain that clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool should be the ones targeting Isak, rather than Arsenal. “We’re talking about Real Madrid here, Liverpool need a centre forward. I think Arsenal would be an option, but I think they would be down the list of options.”
Scholes made it clear that, while Arsenal is a top club, he sees Isak’s next move as one that should take him to a club with more potential for silverware. “He’s at Newcastle, a really good team, a brilliant team, but they’re not going to win league titles; that’s the next stage of his career,” Scholes said. “I think it would be a risk to go to Arsenal and do the same thing. Liverpool have got a much better chance, Man City and Real Madrid the same.”
The former Manchester United midfielder also hinted that Isak’s talents could be a better fit for clubs with more established title-winning credentials. “I think his sights should be higher than Arsenal,” Scholes added. “He is a player Man United would be looking at but in the position we’re in now… it’s not going to happen.”
When asked by Jamie Carragher if he thought Isak had already outgrown Arsenal, Scholes confidently responded, “Yeah.” He continued by praising the Newcastle striker’s ability to elevate any team. “I agree he takes Arsenal to another level, he would be brilliant and he could possibly get you over the line. But I just think there’s bigger and better in him.”
Isak’s future at Newcastle has been a subject of growing speculation as the striker continues to impress with his performances in the Premier League. With potential suitors like Real Madrid, Liverpool, and other elite clubs reportedly interested, Scholes’ comments suggest that the Swedish star is poised for a move to a club with the ambition and resources to win major trophies. Whether that will be Arsenal remains uncertain, but Scholes’ view is clear: Isak is a player who deserves to aim for the highest levels of European football.
