One of Manchester City’s most expensive signings, Raheem Sterling claims that he is watching the videos of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in order to improve his game. The winger finally appeared to come away from the shackles and perform much more freely.
He scored two goals in the recent Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach. It is expected that this performance will be the springboard that could see Sterling back in the headlines once again. The former Liverpool winger was one of the finest players of last season, but he has struggled to hit the same heights at his new club.
His form towards the end of his Liverpool career would not have given the player a lot of happiness, but Sterling says that he has been trying hard to improve. When the former QPR trainee was breaking into the Liverpool first-team, the opposition were not aware about the tactics to adopt in order to stop a player like Sterling. Once the defences got cleverer, the 21-year-old has found the going tough. He has also not been helped by the drop in confidence. Kevin De Bruyne has been getting all the attention this season, but Sterling wants to be a key member of the City team regardless.
“I look at the biggest players in the world and try to see what they’ve all got. I don’t like to compare myself with people. I try to learn as much as I can from everyone around me. Definitely Messi and Ronaldo. They basically just set their lives to play football.I know that’s obvious, they should, but they just take it so seriously. They’ve got massive self-belief and know they’re the best players in the world. That’s what makes them unique and so special,” said Sterling, who has four goals in 15 league appearances.
