Swiss international Granit Xhaka will miss the Carabao Cup third round encounter between Arsenal and AFC Wimbledon as he serves the last of the three-game slammed on him. Xhaka was handed a suspension spanning over three games in all domestic competitions after his red card during the Premier League meeting with holders Manchester City last month. The Swiss midfielder was sent off in the first half of the game for his dangerous tackle on Joao Cancelo.

Arsenal were trailing hosts Manchester City by two goals when Xhaka was sent off thanks to the above mentioned first half red card. Manchester City took full advantage of the numerical advantage with three more goals to make it a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

Swiss national team skipper Xhaka was in the Arsenal starting line-up for the first three league games this season. He was in the Gunners squad that lost 2-0 at fellow London team Brentfordin the first game of the new Premier League campaign. Xhaka was also in the Arsenal XI for the 2-0 home defeat at the hands of London rivals Chelsea. The Swiss player also began the third league game of the season at Premier League champions Manchester City before he was given his marching orders for the tackle on Portuguese international Cancelo.

Since Xhaka was suspended, Arsenal have won all their two games in the Premier League. Club skipper Pierre-EmerickAubameyang was the recipient of the only goal in the 1-0 home win over Norwich City. In the second of those two league games, Norwegian playmaker Martin Odegaard was responsible for the only goal of the match in the 1-0 away victory over Burnley. Xhaka will miss the final game of his three-match ban when Arsenal host AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the Carabao Cup for a place in the fourth round.

My name is Kareem. This is my blog.

I am a massive fan of football (soccer) across the globe - mainly the English Premier League, and closer to home, the Indian Super League.

In England, I am a big fan of Manchester United, though they are still yet to return to the best of times that they had under Sir Alex Ferguson.

In India, I live in Kochin, Kerala, so there is really only one team I could support - the Kerala Blasters!

You may have read some of my work (I work in the sports department in a well-known newspaper), but this blog is all about my own personal interest, and writing for fun.
