Manchester United duo Juan Mata and Lee Grant have both been confirmed by the club to have signed contract extensions. The Red Devils confirmed via their Instagram page and their Twitter account on Friday this week that the midfielder and the goalkeeper have agreed to put pen to paper and officially extend their stay at Old Trafford. It’s not like Mata and Grant have any major roles to play at the club next season, but they are seen as senior figures and they had to be offered contract extensions as the club figured that the agreement would be reached easily.
Mata, on the other hand, was said to be nearing a switch away from Old Trafford and was even linked with a couple of clubs across Europe and in the United States Major League Soccer. The former Chelsea man has said that he is not thinking about returning to Stamford Bridge and he refused to reveal plans about his continued stay at Old Trafford. Mata is now more likely to feature for Manchester United next season in the Premier League than Grant, and both of them are well aware of the fact.
Both Mata and Grant signed new one-year contract extensions that will see them remain at the club at least till the end of next season after which the club will have to decide whether or not they will be offering them new deals. United are trying to wrap up their transfer businesses as soon as possible and they’re already getting locked in conversations.
