Manchester United are currently on the brink of exiting the Champions League at the group stages as their chances of qualifying to the round of 16 hang in the balance. United welcomed Paris Saint-Germain to Old Trafford in their last Champions League Group H encounter but suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat thanks to the heroics of Brazilian forward Neymar.
Having earlier beaten both Paris Saint-Germain away in Paris, Leipzig at Old Trafford, and Istanbul also at home, it was looking like they would sail through the group stage and head straight to the next round with a game to spare, but having suffered defeats away in Turkey against Istanbul and the recent loss at home to PSG, they may yet be dropping out of Europe’s elite competition.
The trip of Manchester United, PSG, and Leipzig are all tied on 9 points and it is now not only a horserace but also a battle of the fittest to secure a last-16 berth.
The Parisiens face Istanbul in their final group stage fixture while United travel to Germany to take on a Leipzig side who already look tough to beat at home. United need anything but a defeat to cement their place in the last-16 of the Champions League tournament, so are Leipzig; which is why it is going to be a tough task for Olé Gunnar Solksjaer’s side.
United have mostly looked weaker at home this season than they have been on the road, and are top of the Premier League table if it were calculated by points gained away from home.
Now, a former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has given his predictions for the crunch tie which holds on Tuesday night.
Berbatov still believes the Red Devils can still secure their passage to the next stage of the competition citing that they cope well under such situations. He however admitted that Ole’s men will have a very high mountain to climb as it would be a very tough fixture given the fact that they’re traveling to Germany and facing a Leipzig side looking to revenge their huge 5-0 victory at the hands of United at Old Trafford.
